Oxford Back Surgery Patients Must Exercise

10,080 minutes are in a week.  What do you do with all those minutes? Sleep, eat, talk, work, listen, shop, drive…exercise? Exercise doesn’t usually come in at number one on most people’s lists of favorite things to do with their time.  It is recommended that we all exercise at least 150 minutes a week. (6) That’s just

  • 2 and a half hours a week.
  • 5 sessions of 30 minutes a week.
  • 10 sessions of 15 minutes a week.

It’s not that much, but we need to schedule it into our busy lives, don’t we? Even your Oxford chiropractor needs to do that! Time goes by so quickly for everyone, including time for your Oxford chiropractic physician at Satterwhite Chiropractic. Your Oxford chiropractic physician at Satterwhite Chiropractic encourages Oxford chiropractic patients to keep up their exercise routines even when they are feeling better and their back pain is better.

Benefits of Exercise

Exercise makes people happier, less depressed and sleep better. (1,2) Oxford chiropractic patients benefit like this, too! Hearts and minds are healthier when their owners exercise. (3,4) Satterwhite Chiropractic challenges you to get out and try a walk! See how much clearer you think and healthier you feel as your heart pumps more. Exercise reduce memory loss. (4) Exercise decreases depressive symptoms. (2) Blood pressure falls. (5) Life span may even expand due to heart workouts with aerobic exercise. (3)  What do you think of all these possibilities? Satterwhite Chiropractic encourages you to see the positives!

Exercise is life-giving. Exercise is life-supporting. Exercise is all that for normal spine folks but even more significant for Oxford back pain sufferers particularly for Oxford post-back surgery patients who still experience back pain. Post-surgical patients who exercise 150 minutes a week show a significant reduction in pain and reoperation rate states a new study of post-surgery back pain patients. In this study the mean age was 57 years old. 80% of them had degenerative diagnoses. 63% had gone through a multilevel back surgery. Only 35% of them met the greater than 1400 kcal per week exercise expenditure and left them open to a second surgery (called a revision surgery). Only 26% of post back surgery patients met the greater than 150 minutes a week of exercise leaving them open to degenerative diagnoses, subsequent spine surgery, and more postoperative back pain. (6) 150 minutes a week doesn’t sound like much anymore, does it? Satterwhite Chiropractic knows our Oxford chiropractic patients can find 2.5 hours a week for their back’s sake. It's part of the whole Oxford treatment plan of chiropractic care
