WORK-RELATED STRESS
Work-related stress messes with us. It gets our attention via pain. None of us is immune to stress, not even a kid! A kid’s job is being a kid and attending school on the path to adulthood. Along the way, kids experience job-related stress. The pressures of grades and friends and news and learning problems get to them. Adolescents find themselves with low back pain, too. Depression, anxiety, coercion, uneasy relationships, extreme academic pressures, and disappointing school lives may all put college students at risk for chronic low back pain. (1) 11% of firefighters reported moderate to extremely severe stress on the job. 40% reported musculoskeletal symptoms with back pain being the most noted. More stress is linked to more such symptoms. (2) Trash collectors said they had back pain issues – upper back pain 89%, shoulder pain 81%, wrist/hand pain 79%, neck pain 68% - which stressed them out more. (3) Researchers found that psychological factors and fear-avoidance behaviors contributed to 11.8% of nursing care facility workers’ reporting that chronic low back pain interfered with their work. (4) It is a rare person whose job is pure joy and stress-free. The rest of us find ways to cope. Your Oxford chiropractor is here for you.
