The hawthorn tree…more than just a shade tree that
grows in the northern hemisphere. The hawthorn tree’s medicinal reputation
is growing! Just as its shade is welcome when it’s hot, the antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antioxidant
properties of hawthorn extract are welcome to reduce
bacteria, oxidation effects and more. Already found
to have favorable benefits for cardiovascular health and
treatment of cardiovascular disorders due to its flavonoid content,
the hawthorn tree’s flavonoid content established it as
valuable for more issues including spinal cord injury
and staph infection. (1,2) Satterwhite Chiropractic creates
Oxford chiropractic treatment plans with incorporated
nutrition to tackle these issues and more with nutrients like
those from hawthorn when appropriate. The Oxford chiropractic care is quite
focused on what your body requires!
FLAVONOIDS IN HAWTHORN LEAVES’ EXTRACT
Hawthorn leaves’ antioxidant and antimicrobial attributes
are expanding its reputation as a popular herbal
medicine plant. Hawthorn’s total phenols, total flavonoid content, and
antioxidant activity tested well in a recent study, especially
for hyperoside, chlorogenic acid, and isoquercetin in hawthorn fruits. (2) Methanol
and ethanol extracts of hawthorn demonstrated high levels of total
flavonoids and polyphenols. The methanol extract of hawthorn had
the strongest antibacterial level against bacteria, especially
stapholococcus aureus (SA). It damaged the cell wall and membrane
of SA and inhibited its enzyme activity, increased
reactive oxygen species, transformed gene expression, and
provoked SA cell death. (3) Hawthorn’s methanol extract is powerful!
FLAVONOIDS IN CARE OF SPINAL CORD INJURY
Research set for a publication date of 2021 presents the powerful therapeutic
benefits of hawthorn leaves’ flavonoids for spine cord injury. Hawthorn leaves
were found to have an
abundance of total flavonoid species and content. Research described
that this type of plenty of
flavonoids can reduce apoptosis (cell death) and utlilize
neuroprotective effects to promote motor function in
rats with spinal cord injury. (4) An interesting step toward potential human benefit and Oxford
back pain decrease.
