Oxford Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh
Frankincense and myrrh, two respected gifts obtained from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable partners in healing! Both have been incorporated throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, especially Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties tackle issues with many different health conditions, many that Satterwhite Chiropractic sees in our Oxford chiropractic patients who may want to know more!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine admires frankincense and myrrh for their extensively beneficial health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and significantly for anti-tumor effects prevented growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are elements of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of cancers with the latest research revealing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By controlling pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that nourish tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was lessened with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The frankincense/myrrh combo proves itself to be a winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Satterwhite Chiropractic appreciates combinations of treatments to help our Oxford chiropractic patients looking for healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a critical complication of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease, by regulating pathways having to do with the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as having the ability to stimulate blood and disperse blood stasis. The combination was put to the test and found to reduce neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to preventing TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Satterwhite Chiropractic knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting to understand as in depth as this, but we want to share the whole story if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great result!
