Oxford Chiropractic Care of Headache and Tips for Headache and Migraine Prevention

September 17, 2019

Headaches and migraines are never welcome. Headache sufferers are usually quite open to tips on how to prevent them. Over 50 years of age, sufferers of migraine, a primary headache, find themselves part of a global community with migraine as a leading cause of disability. (1) Satterwhite Chiropractic has some prevention tips and treatment relief suggestions especially for our Oxford headache and migraine sufferers.

DIET AND WEIGHT

A healthy diet nourishes the body and the mind. Researchers have described that migraine triggers appear in a variety of forms - environmental, hormonal, and dietary. A high-quality diet effectively helps control migraine. Additionally, and more expressly, women with chronic migraine had a lower diet quality than that of women with episodic migraine. (2) Another study was even more specific with the type of diet helpful to migraine patients, specifically overweight folks. A very low-calorie ketogenic diet was revealed to be episodic-migraine preventative. Effectiveness was observed within one month of the diet modification. (3) Satterwhite Chiropractic is not recommending that any of our patients begin a certain type of diet now! If a Oxford headache sufferer wishes to try a new diet, Satterwhite Chiropractic is here to discuss and decide which diet (if any special one) is proper.

NUTRITION: Vitamin D

In much the same way, vitamin D supplementation is presented. Vitamin D deficiency has been found in 45% to 100% of migraine sufferers. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant features of vitamin D have initiated a look at including it in the care and prevention of headache and migraine. One study reported that trial doses of 1000-4000 IU per day decreased the frequency of migraine in addition to routine drug therapy. More study needs to be completed, but vitamin D supplementation appears promising. CHIROPRACTIC AND INTEGRATIVE CARE

Headaches of all varieties – primary headaches like migraine and tension-type headache – are common complaints brought to the Oxford chiropractor. Research stated that complementary and integrative medicine - nutrition, movement (yoga), manual therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage, biofeedback, meditation, and mind-body strategies – was helpful. In particular, spinal manipulation, chiropractic care, some supplements, diet change and hydrotherapy are reported helpful for migraine headache. (4)
