Oxford Chiropractic Nutrition Plan for Osteoporosis & Osteoarthritis
Nutrition. Good nutrition is a good foundation for a healthy body. In our Oxford chiropractic practice, we welcome patients with conditions like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis that develop over time. Their potential prevention and treatment are foundationally embedded in early-life nutrition habits that are supported and/or enhanced throughout life. Satterwhite Chiropractic describes new research on the significance of vitamins A, C and D as well as glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate for bones and joints and overall health.
HEALTHY CELLS, CARTILAGE, & BONE PREVENT DISEASES LIKE OSTEOPOROSIS & OSTEOARTHRITIS
Optimal nutrition status guards the body and keeps it strong and healthy. Research has shown the advantages of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate in slowing osteoarthritis of the knee. Researchers now plan to study how nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and other natural components in a normal diet may be beneficial. (1) Optimal bone and cartilage metabolism wards off issues like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) controls bone and cartilage metabolism at the cellular level – even into the nucleus of the cell – of osteoblasts and chondrocytes. (2) The metabolism of articular cartilage depends on chondroprotectors (CPs) that contribute to the regeneration of cartilage surfaces and joint capsules. In osteoarthritis and low back pain, loss of chondroitin sulfate and hyaline cartilage is noted. Some approaches to remedy this situation involved injections of CPs. (3) Other methods included oral supplementation as diet is not often a basis for these CPs. Oral supplementation is also a preferred way to improve vitamin D levels as low levels of vitamin D are known to contribute to issues like osteoporosis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancer types, and overweight/obese status. Vitamin D is essential, but its natural sources like fatty fish and eggs are not usually part of most people’s day-to-day diets. In Spain, at least half of the population is deficient in vitamin D. Researchers suggested that Spain find a way to urge people to eat eggs to combat the vitamin D deficiency and fend off future diseases. (4) It’s particularly critical for those who have a combination of issues - osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency and high fracture/fall risk – to continue their supplementation of vitamin D. (5) Feeding yourself goes so far beyond just feeding your stomach and satisfying your taste buds! The food you eat and the supplements you take keep your body functioning, healthy and strong.
