WHO SMOKES?
Researchers are curious about issues related to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who underwent back surgery, they discovered that 18% were smokers. The researchers observed that compared to the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male, nondiabetic, and nonobese. These patients who suffer with coronary artery disease were more apt to be smokers. Smokers who underwent lumbar spine back surgery came to their healthcare provider more with leg pain than back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education status were also related to smoking status. Interestingly though, smoking status didn’t affect the disability status at a year after back surgery. (1) Altering such risk factors work just as well for smokers and nonsmokers luckily. Satterwhite Chiropractic would help a Oxford smoker dealing with Oxford back pain to stop smoking.
SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY
The body knows what’s good for it…and what is not. Smoking is not. Studying 2307 smokers and non-smokers, researchers found that smoking is greatly associated with spine pain. Headache, trunk pain and limb pain ensued. Active smoking is linked to pain in every part of the body. The spine and head take the force of the painful influence though. If a smoker does not like pain, you will want to think about stop smoking! (2) Satterwhite Chiropractic is with you to support your attempt to quit smoking when you’re ready.
