Oxford Chiropractic Nutrition Tip: Accept Those Tomato, Bean and Pepper Gifts from Gardeners!

September 01, 2020

The rewards of the summer garden abound! The garden bounty is copious! Every family circle seems to have at least one enthusiastic gardener with more tomatoes and green beans and peppers than he or she knows what to do with. Fortunately for us, generosity abounds in gardeners. Satterwhite Chiropractic encourages Oxford chiropractic patients to appreciatively take those tomatoes, peppers, and green beans and feast on them for an amazing anti-oxidant and nutritional boost to fight inflammation, heart disease, cancer, and more! Satterwhite Chiropractic welcomes all of these benefits!

ANTI-OXIDANT, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, ANTI-DISEASE

Satterwhite Chiropractic knows this is an incredible list of benefits. It’s hard to split these actions from each other! They are all beneficial. Tomatoes are very nutrient rich, providing vitamin C, potassium and lycopene, an anti-oxidant that benefits cancer and heart disease prevention and anti-inflammatory activity. (1,2) To enhance absorption of lycopene, enjoy tomatoes with some tasty, healthy fats like olives, avocados or related oils. (3) Bell and chili peppers are filled with vitamins C, A, E, K1 as well as potassium, folic acid and fiber. [All of us all need a little more fiber in our diets! About fiber, green beans are marvelous sources. Plus, they have lots of proteins, carotenoids, and anti-oxidants with only a few calories. Nutrients in green beans are reported to also be anticarcinogenic, assisting the prevention and even the stopping the spread of some cancers throughout the body. (4, 5, 6)] Additionally, peppers assist in fighting inflammation, too, with their anti-oxidants. Raw and roasted peppers offer anti-oxidant benefits. Roasting may increase or decrease those benefits determined by the pepper type and growth stage. (7,8,9) Either way, your Oxford chiropractor encourages you to enjoy some peppers, tomatoes, and green beans! Your body will repay you!
