September 2020 Healthy News from Satterwhite Chiropractic: Cox Technic Relieves Back Pain due to Disc Extrusion with Spondylolytic Spondylolisthesis and Eat an Apple!
Extruded discs alone are painful and often believed to be surgical issues. Spondylolytic spondylolisthesis alone is a disabling, painful condition and many times considered a surgical issue requiring fusion. Combine the two of these in one patient and the Oxford chiropractic patient and the treating physician like your Oxford chiropractor encounter a challenge that calls for gentle, experienced care. A recently published case report of a patient with a disc extrusion – one that has escaped its outer bands and settled into the spinal canal space – and spondylolytic spondylolisthesis – involving separation of the pars interarticularis – detailed how just 9 visits in a month brought about pain relief. The patient who rated his pain a 9 out of 10 (a 10 being the worst pain) on the first visit rated it 0 out of 10 on visit 9. Follow-up at ten years revealed that the patient had no orthopedic or neurological issues and reported no recurrence of the original symptoms. (1) What was the treatment plan? Enjoy This Apple Season!
Feed the gut. Lose some weight and raise your bone density to improve your spine. Lower your risk of diabetes and heart disease. Protect the brain. How? Have an apple! Apples are amazingly healthy! They have hardly any calories, good pre-biotic pectin that nourishes the good gut bacteria, plenty of fiber and water to fill you up, loads of antioxidant polyphenols in the peel, acetylcholine-level-preserving factors to protect the brain, and flavonoids that may lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and stroke risk. (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) Apples supplement a healthy chiropractic approach to life!
